The Great Gatsby

Hi girlies, a mani inspired by The Great Gatsby today.

I don’t really like this mani very much, I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I was loving my butterfly French so much!

Edit: I had to change my thumb because it was really getting to me!

So now I have a little suit & tie on my thumb. Feeling much happier!

I’ve noticed you’ve been using the Barry M nail art pens. I haven’t tried that brand of pen but I have tried others like it, I have never been successful using them. What’s your secret???

Hi Amy. What are you finding tricky about using them? I find that they are much easier to use with the nib, as you can literally draw onto your nail like its a pen.

I usually find that the pens drag the nail polish unless I let the polish completely dry. I’ll have to order the Barry M pens and try them out!!

I generally paint Sally Hansen Bamboo Nourishment, a base coat, two coats of colour then Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. Then I wait for around 10-15 minutes just to make sure it’s dry and then use my pens. I haven’t ever had any trouble with dragging when I’ve done it this way so I guess that’s my secret! Barry M nail pens are the best I’ve tried.

Super cool – they’re festive without being too busy! I liked your first thumb design; it was very abstract/deco. But the wee suit is too cute.
There’s something about nail art pens that don’t suit me; the ones I’ve tried always scrape and smudge my base coat. Wish we had Barry M in the states, though!

Thank you, I was aiming for Art Deco with my first thumb design but I thought it looked more Aztec when I’d finished!
The Barry M ones are my favourites out of all the pens I have ever used, you don’t have to squeeze them like some annoying ones. The nib helps keep everything the same size, unlike the ones you have to squeeze, as you could accidentally squeeze out a huge blob! But these are fab. It’s a shame you don’t have Barry M over there!
